SHOWCASE researchers present at Ecology, Politics and Justice Conference in Mons

1 August 2025

From 18–21 June 2025, Mons, Belgium, hosted the international conference Ecology, Politics and Justice: Working Towards the Pluriverse. SHOWCASE researchers from the Estonian University of Life Sciences were in attendance, presenting their latest findings on biodiversity and landscape management.

Aki Kadulin, a SHOWCASE partner, together with Indrek Melts, presented their study on Abandonment Drivers of Biodiversity-rich Semi-natural Grasslands in Europe. Meanwhile, Mylene Martinez, alongside Indrek Melts, shared insights on the Impact of Abandonment on the Spiders and Ground Beetles in the Estonian Coastal Semi-natural Habitats. Both presentations highlighted the dynamics of unique landscapes where human intervention is moderate, exploring both biodiversity indicators and social dimensions of land management.

These presentations are part of the broader SHOWCASE project, which is dedicated to integrating biodiversity into farming practices. The project delivers new insights and innovative tools to support the agricultural sector’s transition toward more sustainable farming, helping farmers manage native biodiversity while meeting wider societal needs.
