The SHOWCASE project has received prominent recognition by being featured in the European Research Council (ERC) and European Research Executive Agency (REA) publication, titled "Biodiversity: The Nexus Approach", which outlines “a selection of EU-funded research projects that deliver scientific knowledge, solutions and case studies on the connections between protecting, restoring and sustainably using biodiversity, and managing water, food systems, human health, and climate change”.
As part of this prestigious selection, SHOWCASE is showcased as a key initiative dedicated to integrating biodiversity into farming practices. By fostering the adoption of sustainable agricultural methods, the project aims to balance agricultural productivity with ecological preservation, supporting a transition towards practices that meet both environmental and societal needs.
The brochure underscores the ‘nexus’ approach, which is central to the recently published in December 2024 Nexus assessment of IPBES. This approach seeks to address interconnected systems - such as biodiversity, water, food, health, and climate change - while minimising trade-offs and maximising synergies. Such an approach is crucial for designing impactful policies and solutions that benefit multiple sectors and help achieve the transformative change necessary to reverse biodiversity loss.
The SHOWCASE project represents the EU’s commitment to the integration of biodiversity into farming practices. The project aims to deliver new insights and innovative tools to facilitate the agricultural sector’s transition towards more sustainable farming practices helping to meet wider societal needs. It aligns with global efforts, including the IPBES thematic Nexus assessment.
This acknowledgment by the ERC and REA not only highlights the scientific contributions of SHOWCASE but also strengthens its position as a leading example of integrating biodiversity into practical, scalable solutions for sustainable agriculture.
