Europe is increasingly investing in research and innovation. Supporting scientific breakthroughs, addressing social challenges and stepping up cooperation are only a few of the benefits of that investment. And while the results of research projects often become well-known success stories, the road which led to them is not always as clear to the general public. To shed more light on the behind-the-scenes of research projects, SHOWCASE launched an open access collection in the Research Ideas and Outcomes (RIO) journal.

SHOWCASing synergies between agriculture, biodiversity and Ecosystem services to help farmers capitalising on native biodiversity (SHOWCASE) is an EU Horizon 2020 research project, dedicated to the integration of biodiversity into farming practices. 

The dynamic project outcomes collection in RIO Journal comprehensively illustrates SHOWCASE’s work and development, acting as a one-stop knowledge hub. It hosts the full research cycle starting from the conceptualisation (the grant proposal), illustrating progress made (deliverables) and disseminating final results (research papers). Its purpose is to continuously providе updates about the activities within SHOWCASE, as the project results gradually accumulate.

Currently, the collection hosts a total of 17 project outputs, including the grant proposal, seven project reports and nine research papers, published in different journals, but linked through their metadata in the collection.

SHOWCASE’s collection thus unites unconventional research outputs like deliverables with more traditional scientific publications, allowing the public to better understand the road leading up to research results. It will continue to grow and evolve alongside the project itself, illustrating the natural evolution of research projects. In this way, SHOWCASE takes on the mission to contribute to the transparency, efficiency and impact of scientific findings, supporting the expansion of innovation.
