At the 2025 SIBECOL-AEET Meeting, held under the banner of advancing ecological science for sustainability, Dr. Ignasi Bartomeus took part in a session focused on the new Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) 2023–2027 and its potential to enhance biodiversity through adaptive management and evidence-based evaluation.
The session, titled “Evaluating the Effectiveness of the New CAP for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services”, brought together leading researchers to present tools and case studies aimed at assessing how well the reformed CAP supports biodiversity and ecosystem service delivery—particularly within the high-biodiversity agroecosystems of Spain and Portugal.
Representing SHOWCASE, Dr. Bartomeus presented preliminary results synthesising pollinator data collected through the project’s multi-actor pan-European network of 12 such areas, across 10 countries with contrasting farming systems.
This participation underscores SHOWCASE’s leadership in advancing applied ecological research that informs sustainable agricultural policy across Europe.
