WP1 aims to build on existing national farmland biodiversity initiatives, to develop a pan-European network of Experimental Biodiversity Areas (EBAs). In these EBAs multi-actor communities (growers, extension workers, researchers, NGOs, citizens etc.) work together to co-develop, co-manage and co-evaluate biodiversity innovations to enhance farm production, and improve wildlife protection and social-ecological production systems.

WP2 deals with incentives used to successfully steer agricultural farm management in a direction which enhances biodiversity and the associated ecosystem services on productive land and in the surrounding landscape. The WP aims to provide critical evaluation of different pathways to biodiversity targeted management by analysis of regulatory frameworks, private and public incentive instruments and their combinations from different perspectives.

WP3 aims to enhance the evidence base for synergies between biodiversity and agricultural production along the gradient of land use ranging from intensification to abandonment. Research in this WP will address potentially conflicting objectives between different stakeholders and provide a basis for potential solutions that are attractive and accessible for farmers, for administrators and policy makers.

WP4 aims to revise and evaluate which types of narratives can best convey the existing evidence on benefits of biodiversity management to different interest groups. We will evaluate which messages and forms of communication are most effective in inspiring farmers to take action for biodiversity and showcase the reciprocal benefits of agriculture and biodiversity conservation to science, policy and practice.

By facilitating established effective communication practices, WP5 aims to have the project run smoothly and pleasantly, and to make sure the project achieves both scientific and societal impact. To achieve this, the work package will continuously strengthen the connections between the individual participants of SHOWCASE.
